Due to the COVID-19 outbreak we have turned our full attention to supporting affected hospitals and healthcare providers.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus.

Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19.

However, there are ways to prevent the coronavirus pandemic from spreading any further.

One of the most effective ways to halt the COVID-19 outbreak is to

make sure asymptomatic carriers of the disease are:

1) made aware that they are carriers of the coronavirus

2) individuals found to be infected with the coronavirus are put into quarantine

3) people who have come into contact with infected individuals are put into quarantine

Carriers of COVID-19 can remain asymptomatic for 18 days.

Therefore, it is imperative that asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus are tested for the disease.

By testing everyone and not just those who have shown symptoms, it is possible to quarantine asymptomatic carriers — something that could not be achieved with more typical testing methods used to confirm COVID-19 in people already showing signs of the illness.

Rapid “point of care” screening tests are able to accurately detect  SARS-CoV-2 lgG & lgM antibodies in both symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus. Serology testing for COVID-19 is especially attractive because of the relatively short time to diagnosis and the ability to test for an active immune response against the virus. While PCR is a very sensitive assay, combining PCR with serology would theoretically increase sensitivity of testing. Having 2 tests would allow confirmation of infection, rather than relying on a single test to detect COVID-19.
